How to Use the Age Calculator

Enter your date of birth and, optionally, the date you want to calculate your age at (it defaults to today). Your exact age appears instantly in years, months, and days, along with totals in months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes, and a countdown to your next birthday.

How Age Is Calculated

Exact age is found by computing the difference between two dates while accounting for the varying lengths of months and the presence of leap years:

  • Years — complete years using the anniversary convention below.
  • Months — the complete months since the last birthday.
  • Days — calendar days since the most recent monthly anniversary.

For total day counts, the calculator counts every day between the two dates, including February 29 in leap years.

Month-end dates, leap days and time zones

When the birth day does not exist in the target month, this calculator uses that month's last day as the monthly anniversary. January 31 to February 28, 2025 is 0 years, 1 month, 0 days; January 31 to March 1 is 0 years, 1 month, 1 day.

A February 29 birthday uses February 28 in non-leap years. This is the calculator's convention, not a determination of legal eligibility. Check the rules of the relevant organization when an age threshold matters.

Total days count calendar dates and do not change with daylight saving time. Hours and minutes are conversions of that day count, not elapsed time since a recorded birth time. For another interval, use the date difference calculator.

Example Calculation

If you were born on March 15, 1995, and today is August 5, 2026:

  • Years: 2026 − 1995 = 31 (birthday already passed this year)
  • Months: August − March = 4 full months
  • Days: 5 − 15 → borrow from the previous month = 21 days

Exact age: 31 years, 4 months, 21 days.
